Avalon 3: Slot Overview

Travel back through the annals of slot history, and you’ll find the original Avalon—a beloved 2006 release from Microgaming that quickly earned itself a cult following. It was followed by Avalon 2 in 2014, and now, after more than a decade, the legendary saga continues with Avalon 3. Developed by Stormcraft Studios under the now rebranded Microgaming banner, Avalon 3 returns with a treasure trove of modern upgrades, including Magic Orb prizes, jackpots, and a free spins feature.

Set in a gothic treasure hall decked out with soaring arches, columns, and glittering coin piles, the game has a stately, cinematic vibe. A regal figure—presumably King Arthur himself—watches over the action, while key features are clearly signposted above and beside the reels. From the Magic Orb chest to the jackpot prize indicators, players can easily see what’s at stake. Naturally, Avalon 3 boasts high-definition visuals and a rich orchestral soundtrack that brings the Arthurian theme to life with epic flair.

How Avalon 3 Plays

Avalon 3 runs on a high volatility math model, played across a 5×4 grid with 20 fixed paylines used to evaluate winning combinations from left to right. Stake options range from €0.20 to €50 per spin, and the highest RTP configuration clocks in at a respectable 96.3%, alongside a theoretical hit frequency of 18.11%.

Symbols & Payouts

The symbol lineup includes a mix of Arthurian-themed icons and standard royals:

  • Low pays: 9–A card ranks, awarding 1x to 1.8x the bet for five of a kind.

  • Premium symbols: A treasure room, scenic view, castle, throne, dragon orb statue, and Merlin, paying 2x to 10x the bet for a full line.

Wild symbols appear throughout the base game and free spins, substituting for any regular pay symbol. They can also land stacked, increasing win potential when they hit just right.

Avalon 3 Features

The key to unlocking Avalon 3’s biggest thrills lies with the Magic Orbs, which are central to triggering a range of exciting features, including Magic Orb Bonuses, Jackpot Bonuses, Free Spins, and even a Bonus Buy option.

🔮 Magic Orb Bonus

Magic Orbs appear on reel 3, and each time one lands, it increases the Magic Orb Count by +1 (starting at 5), up to a maximum of 50. The Magic Orb Bonus can randomly trigger after a Magic Orb is collected.

  • When activated, a number of cash prizes (equal to the current Magic Orb Count) are added to the reels for the next spin.

  • Prizes include Mini, Minor, or Midi Jackpots, or coin values up to 6x the bet.

  • Occasionally, a Magic Orb Multiplier of x2 or x3 is applied to all prizes.

  • After the bonus, the Orb Count resets back to 5.

⚔️ Ways Wins

If 3 or more Magic Orbs land on adjacent reels starting from the left, but no feature triggers, a Ways Win payout is awarded based on their prize values. Free Spins and Jackpot Orbs act as wilds in this scenario, helping complete combinations.

💰 Jackpot Bonus

Collecting Jackpot Orbs on reels 2, 3, or 4 can increase the Mega or Maxi Jackpots, and may also randomly trigger the Jackpot Bonus.

  • Players pick from coins until revealing 3 matching symbols.

  • Available jackpots include:

    • Mini: 8x

    • Minor: 15x

    • Midi: 40x

    • Maxi: 100x–1,000x

    • Mega: 1,000x–5,000x

  • A x3 multiplier can randomly apply to Mini, Minor, or Midi wins.

🔁 Free Spins

Collecting Free Spins Orbs from reels 2–4 can randomly trigger 8 free spins, starting with a Magic Orb Count of 5.

  • If the Magic Orb Bonus triggers during free spins, the Orb Count does not reset—it remains persistent for the rest of the round.

  • Landing another Free Spins Orb adds +3 extra spins.

💸 Bonus Buy

For instant access to the action, players can buy the Free Spins feature at a cost of 100x the bet.

Avalon 3: Slot Verdict

In internet years, the original Avalon is practically prehistoric, which might explain why Avalon 3—despite nearly two decades of distance—feels somewhat dated. The game leans heavily on local jackpot mechanics, a feature Games Global and its partner studios seem to pump out like clockwork. Clearly, there’s an audience for the kind of jackpot progression that requires players to build toward the top prize rather than having access to it from spin one. Still, it’s a formula that’s starting to show its age.

On the plus side, the Magic Orb Bonus adds a degree of intrigue. Watching Orbs float in and out of chests and activate wins adds some much-needed energy to the base game. The bonus gets more interesting during free spins, when the Magic Orb Count doesn’t reset, and multipliers can come into play, increasing the feature’s appeal. That said, Avalon 3 offers fewer features than Avalon 2, which might feel like a downgrade for players who appreciated that sequel’s broader scope. There’s also a reduced win cap of 5,000x, making it feel more restrained overall.

In the end, Avalon 3 feels like a nostalgia-driven sequel that might struggle to stand on its own. It’s not a terrible game by any means—there’s some visual polish and the Orb system is entertaining—but it doesn’t bring enough new or exciting to justify the legacy it leans on. Without the Avalon name, this one may have flown under the radar entirely.
