Phoenix Graveyard 2 – Slot Overview

Technically speaking, if phoenixes are reborn from their own ashes, would they even need graveyards? Probably not—but that hasn’t stopped ELK Studios, under Light & Wonder, from delivering Phoenix Graveyard 2. The sequel to 2022’s dark and brooding original keeps the same macabre tone while expanding its feature set and increasing the winning potential.

Visually, it’s every bit as grim as before. The action unfolds in a moonlit old town, complete with a twisted tree, weathered gravestones, and an atmosphere dripping with gothic menace. Candles flicker atop skulls on the reels, and in the bonus rounds, character symbols transform into eerie skeletons. It’s hardly the most welcoming environment ELK has crafted, but for players who enjoy a touch of the sinister, Phoenix Graveyard 2 offers a richly atmospheric—if joyless—world to spin through.

Winning combinations in Phoenix Graveyard 2 start from the leftmost reel on a 5×4 grid, with at least 1,024 ways to win—expandable into the millions. Stakes range from 20c to $/€100, and those looking to accelerate the action can choose from five X-iter feature buys. Whether you play naturally or via feature buys, the RTP sits at 94%, backed by a high-volatility math model.

The paytable includes 10–A royals worth 0.2x–0.4x the bet for five-of-a-kind, and five premium character symbols paying 1x–2.5x for the same. Multiple wild types appear, substituting for all regular symbols, and an all-wild win pays the same as the game’s highest-value symbol.

Features Overview

Phoenix Graveyard 2 packs in a dense list of extras—Phoenix and Reaper Wilds, Wild Battles, Skull Activations, a Feature Row system, multiple bonus rounds, and a suite of X-iter feature buys.

Phoenix & Reaper Wilds

  • Phoenix Wild – Substitutes for all pay symbols, awards a respin, and unlocks a random Feature Row position, which may reveal a feature symbol.

  • Reaper Wild – Also substitutes and unlocks a Feature Row position, but is a walking wild that awards respins as it moves left until leaving the grid.

Wild Battle

If a Phoenix and Reaper Wild land on the same row or vertically adjacent, they battle after wins are paid:

  • Winner gains a multiplier.

  • Draw – both gain multipliers.

  • Phoenix wins – removes all low-paying symbols on the next spin.

  • Reaper wins – 1–5 Feather Wilds spread across the grid.

Feather Wilds can spawn after a Phoenix has been split, lost a battle, or when splitting a position already at six ways.

Skull Activations

Occasionally, the Phoenix Skull or Reaper Skull glows, triggering special effects:

  • Reaper Skull – Lands one Reaper Wild on the rightmost reel; any unlocked Feature Row positions stay active for the rest of the round.

  • Phoenix Skull – Lands 1–3 Phoenix Wilds, each granting a respin with the Feature Row unlocked. Works the same way for respins triggered during the effect.

Feature Row

Five locked positions sit above the reels:

  • Landing a Phoenix or Reaper Wild unlocks one position before wins are evaluated.

  • Unlocked positions spin to reveal either a blank or one of these symbols:

    • Split All – Increases ways to win for all positions on the grid by +1.

    • Split Right / Split Left – Boosts a position and all to its right/left by +1.

    • Split Reel – Increases ways to win for all positions on that reel by +1.

    • Split One – Boosts a random position on the reel by +1–6 ways.

    • Spawn Phoenix – Adds a Phoenix Wild to a random position.

    • Spawn Reaper – Adds a Reaper Wild to a random position.

    • Respin – Locks all Phoenix/Reaper Wilds in place and awards a respin (no new Feature Row unlocks during this respin).

Extra Rules:

  • Splits can raise a position to a maximum of six ways. Splitting a maxed-out position adds six Feather Wilds instead.

  • Splits above a Reaper “power up” the effect, increasing ways by 2–6 instead of 1, or boosting 2–5 positions for Split One.

  • If a split hits a Phoenix or Reaper, their multiplier increases instead of affecting the reel position.

Bonus Game

  • Trigger with 3, 4, or 5 scatters for 6, 8, or 10 free spins.

  • Scatters are sticky if a respin is pending.

  • Starts with one persistent Phoenix Wild that moves to a new position each spin; extra Phoenixes also persist and add +1 spin.

  • Landing Phoenix or Reaper Wilds unlocks one Feature Row position per spin.

  • Split positions, unlocked Feature Row positions, and multipliers remain for the full round.

  • When a Phoenix or Reaper lands/moves to a boosted position, they absorb the ways-to-win as multiplier value (returned when they leave).

Super Bonus Upgrade:

  • Land a Super Bonus symbol on the rightmost reel during the bonus to open all Feature Row positions and activate powered-up splits. Grants +2 spins.

  • Alternatively, triggering the bonus during a Phoenix Skull or Reaper Skull also upgrades it to a Super Bonus.

X-iter Feature Buys

  1. Bonus Hunt – 4× higher bonus chance for 2.5x bet.

  2. Mega Bonus Hunt – 8× higher bonus chance for 5x bet.

  3. Splitting Frenzy – One spin with all Feature Row positions unlocked, boosted feature symbol odds, and bonus symbols replaced by super bonus symbols for 50x bet.

  4. Regular Bonus Buy100x bet.

  5. Super Bonus Buy500x bet.

Phoenix Graveyard 2 – Slot Verdict

It’s debatable whether Phoenix Graveyard 2 is a dramatic leap forward from its predecessor, but it certainly offers more to sink your teeth into. The Wild Battles return, splitting mechanics are back with greater variety, and feature symbols can now split left, right, single positions, entire reels, or the whole grid. Each position can be split up to six ways, creating an enormous—though unspecified—number of win possibilities. Of course, big potential still hinges on connecting those boosted positions with matching symbols.

Visually, the sequel retains the same dark, oppressive atmosphere, though the reel area and feature row feel less striking than ELK’s more vibrant productions. Still, the mechanics themselves have bite—especially the ability to upgrade a regular bonus into a super bonus mid-round for powered-up splitting. Wild Battles remain tense moments, and the expanded splitting system will be catnip for fans of the mechanic.

If the original’s grim fantasy setting drew you in rather than pushed you toward a sunnier fruit slot, the sequel is likely to grip you just as tightly—if not more so. With potential doubled to 25,000x the bet and a packed roster of features, Phoenix Graveyard 2 delivers plenty of dark thrills for players willing to brave its eerie streets.
