Serpent King – New (Red Tiger) Slot Review

Serpent King: Slot Overview

When it comes to ruling the jungle, lions usually wear the crown, but not in this case. In Serpent King, a menacing reptilian predator has slithered its way to the top of the food chain, becoming the dominant force in Red Tiger’s latest slot. If this sounds familiar, it’s because Serpent King shares DNA with Primate King and Primate King Megaways, two of Red Tiger’s previous jungle-themed releases. Like its predecessors, the game revolves around upgrading wild symbols and unlocking a sixth reel, supported by an array of additional features.

Once again, players find themselves deep in the mystical jungle of Serpent King, where they must brave the wild in pursuit of riches while avoiding the deadly grasp of the fearsome creature. Unlike an ordinary snake, the Serpent King is a mythical beast with glowing blue eyes, clawed limbs, and a frilled mane, lurking in the shadows of the flaming torch-lit ruins. While an encounter with this formidable predator would be terrifying in real life, in this slot, the more full-reel wild multipliers you land, the better your chances of uncovering hidden treasures.

As before, Serpent King technically operates on a 6-reel grid, though at the start, the rightmost reel remains locked. To unlock all six reels, players must complete three Serpent Wild upgrades. Each reel contains four rows, and the slot offers 30 paylines, awarding wins from the leftmost reel. Players can choose a stake ranging from 10c to $/€6, spinning a medium-high volatility math model into action. The default RTP stands at 95.7%, slightly higher than its predecessor, Primate King.

The low-paying symbols include scaly-suited clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades, rewarding 0.6x to 1.5x the bet for a five-symbol win. When the sixth reel is unlocked, premium symbols like the necklace, potion bottle, skull, and treasure chest can appear, offering payouts of 6x to 30x the stake for a six-of-a-kind combination.

Serpent King: Slot Features

Serpent King retains several features from Primate King while introducing new mechanics and tweaks. The slot now includes Gold Coins, a Progress Bar, the Serpent Wild, a Multiplier Stone, and Serpent Respins.

Gold Coins & Progress Bar

As long as there are still Serpent Wild upgrades to unlock, Gold Coins may appear on the bottom right corner of any symbol on the grid. If Gold Coins land simultaneously with a Serpent Wild, they are collected to fill the Serpent Wild progress bar.

  • 30 collected Gold Coins unlock Upgrade 1
  • 60 collected Gold Coins unlock Upgrade 2
  • 90 collected Gold Coins unlock Upgrade 3

Until all three upgrades are unlocked, the progress bar remains visible next to the five reels. Once fully upgraded, the progress bar converts into a sixth reel, where card suit symbols cannot land.

Serpent Wild Upgrades

The Serpent Wild serves as a substitute for all paying symbols and evolves as Gold Coins are collected:

  • Upgrade 1 – Expands the Serpent Wild into a 1×4-sized symbol.
  • Upgrade 2 – Adds a random multiplier to the Serpent Wild (x2, x3, or x5).
  • Upgrade 3 – Transforms the Serpent Wild into a Locked Wild.
    • It remains on the reels until it is part of at least one win, followed by a non-winning spin.
    • Each consecutive win involving the Locked Wild increases its multiplier by +1.
    • The Serpent Wild unlocks after the first non-winning spin following a win.
    • If the Locked Wild is on reel 5 and has yet to contribute to a win, it may randomly move to one of the first four reels.

Multiplier Stone

When a Serpent Wild with a multiplier appears but no win occurs, the multiplier may be stored in the Multiplier Stone next to the reels. When the Serpent Wild lands again, the stored multiplier is added to its current multiplier, potentially increasing the payout.

Serpent Respins

If a Serpent Wild lands without forming a win, it may highlight a random symbol type on the grid.

  • All matching symbols lock in place while the remaining reels respin.
  • Respins continue as long as new symbols of the chosen type land.
  • At the end of the feature, only winning lines consisting of the highlighted symbol type are paid out.

Serpent King: Slot Verdict

At first glance, Serpent King appeared to be a direct clone of Primate King, but while the two slots share many similarities, they also introduce notable differences. The core mechanic remains focused on upgrading the wild by collecting Gold Coins, with three familiar upgrades—expanding the Serpent Wild to 1×4, introducing random multipliers, and adding a sticky attribute. These enhancements make for solid rewards, particularly for players willing to stick with the progression system. However, some may not enjoy having to unlock features gradually, which is a mechanic that Red Tiger favors, but isn’t universally loved.

One key change in Serpent King is the introduction of the Multiplier Stone, which can store and release multipliers, adding an extra layer of strategy. The Smash feature from Primate King has been removed, but in exchange, Serpent King brings in a Respin feature, offering another way to build wins. Additionally, once fully upgraded, the progress bar transforms into a sixth reel, which excludes low-pay symbols, helping boost potential payouts. Speaking of potential, Serpent King vastly outshines its predecessor in terms of max winnings, boasting a 12,825x bet cap—nearly three times what Primate King offered, despite the absence of a traditional bonus round or free spins.

The adjustments in both features and statistics help distinguish Serpent King from Primate King, ensuring it stands as a worthy evolution rather than just a rebranded copy. If you’re a fan of slots that grow stronger over time, enjoy feature progression mechanics, and have a soft spot for fearsome reptiles, then Serpent King could be an exciting adventure worth taking.
